Katherine D. Black
Professor
Katherine D. Black graduated from Utah State University with a Master’s Degree in Accounting (Tax Specialty). She taught tax and accounting for eleven years and became certified as a CPA in 1981. She then attended law school and graduated from the University of California at Davis Law School in 1984 and practiced for several years with the firm of McDonough, Holland & Allen in California. She received an LL.M. in Taxation from McGeorge School of Law in 1989. In 1991 she moved to Utah and practiced there for eight years in the areas of taxation, taxpayer representation, business planning, formation and sales, and estate planning. In addition to being licensed in California and Utah, she is also a member of the United States Tax Court Bar.
In 1999, Professor Black returned to teaching. She has authored several articles on tax and business topics and several books including Family Law in Utah and A House of Order. Her current projects include a textbook on estate planning and taxation and an article dealing with the unauthorized practice of tax law and privilege.
